6. The Mental Me
The Mental Me
The fact that I do not believe Christmas is not the equation what it is purported to be is beside the point. In my world Christmas represents a marker of time/experience/thought. Where I am at Christmas is a celebration of someplace of where I was. Most likely not at the year before and sometimes not where I had ever been before or would be at again. It is also a marker in time of my life – ‘oh look I am still alive, and it is another Christmas’. I do not remember when I first began to doubt the completely Christian take that Jesus was born on December 25 and died then rose again on the first Full Moon in spring. The Church selected this convenient date around the year 273. Western Christians first celebrated it on December 25 in 336 but we hold to that day as being from the start of Jesus’ alleged birth. There is more to the picking of that date. December 25 is the time of the Northern Winter Solstice, and this means that the days were getting shorter.
I am sure thousands of years ago this would have been quite a worry for people. Probably some cave dwelling hippies would say, “HOLY shit man – it is getting darker every day – at this rate there will soon be no more daylight” so they would try things, like killing a baby and eating it or bowing before the Sun each morning and begging it to stay around longer. Following these rituals on the Solstice, sure enough, the next day there was more light – not much more but a bit more. Over a few thousand years it would become a ritualistic thing to do – sacrifice the neighbour’s baby – say a few chants and the Sun would begin to return for longer. Christmas was good for the economy thousands of years ago and it still is.
There were many gods born on December 25th – for example Dionysus, god of intoxication, orgies and a-good-time-was-had-by-all was born as the son of Zeus, the Father God. He came bouncing down the road less travelled on December 25th a century before Jesus. Two hundred years before Jesus was the birth of Attis who was like Jesus and also was a son of a virgin - Nana. Those who cared celebrated his birth on December 25. As an adult, Attis got himself sacrificed for the likes of us to bring salvation to humanity and then he died about March 25, after a run in with a tree, and descended for three days into the underworld. (A bit of religious plagiarism is going on here). Mithras - called the Son of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. Christians are in fact a very pathetic plagiarizing pagan pecking parakeet lot with not a lot of open organic originality. However, at the end of the day, I like a lot of their teachings dealing with chilling with others and helping a mate out, doing good deeds, service to others and shit like that.
The Gospel fable is merely a rehash of a mythological formula revolving around the movements of the sun through the heavens. However, based on this information the fact that Jesus was born on Christmas day was my raising truth, and if I did not do “it” right, I would burn for eternity. Therefore, when it came time for a new religion to control the masses it was only natural to have the new hero of the working-class people and the poor and destitute to be born on December 25 too. Osiris, idolized as “the ONE”, since Neolithic times as a savior-god got the followers up until the new “world Order” of year dot or a few years BC. "He was called Lord of Lords, King of Kings, God of Gods...the Resurrection and the Life, the Good shepherd... and he too reigned long before Jesus. Three wise men announced his birth. His followers ate cakes of wheat, which symbolized his body. I once had a list of about 25 Sun-heroes who were born on December 25. Heroes of the dawn such as Mithra, a Persian savior 500 years before our current hero and Buddha of India who was born on December 25 of a virgin. At Buddha’s birth, wise men visited him declaring they had seen signs of his birth. December 25th coincides with the beginning of Capricorn just as Easter coincides with Aires and the beginning of spring. Soon we will be told that George Bush is not George Bush the second but in fact George Bush the Christ. The Son of God, the chosen one who will win the grand crusades against the Christians top enemy, the Moslems. Or is that Obama or Clinton that will save us? (never trump, though many believe he is The One – The One True Idiot that all the other idiots believe in… probably Biden will save us all. Shit, I hope so.
Some other cool Gods born on 25 December: Chrishna, of India, born on December 25, 3228 BC, his mother was a virgin, mother’s name was Maia, Horus, of Egypt, born on December 25, before 2500 BC., Beddou (Fot), was a god of the orient born 1027 BC, his mother was a virgin, Quetzalcoatl, a god of the Western Hemisphere, was born of a virgin around 900 BC. He sojourned in the wilderness, fasted forty days. Was crucified. He was variously represented as the God of light that struggled against the god of darkness called Tezcatlipoca, Tammuz, born before 2600 BC, was hailed as the only begotten son of the god Ea. His mother was a virgin, by the name of Ishtar.
Male religions that see women as unclean or who are just plan perverts like to believe in someone born of a virgin. A few examples are: Augustus (his father was the god Apollo), Agdistis, Attis, Adonis, Buddha, Dionysus, Korybas, Krishna, Mithras, Osirus, Perseus, Romulus, Remus, Tammuz, Zoroaster, Jesus… At the end of the day, it does not really matter. How we treat one another, the planet, and other living creatures is what counts. No one knows how we got to where we are though everyone has a theory or two. My simple philosophy is to become immersed in the moment and not worry about the future beyond this life. Possibly there is something and possibly there is not.
The whole Christian Bible is an astrological treatise. Jesus said, “I will make you fisher of men” a clear Piscean thing to say. The Christian symbol of the fish is as Pisces as one could get and Jesus said “I will be with you until the end of this age” and of course that was exactly the Piscean age and now we are moving in or are already in the next age – the Age of Aquarius. Of course, when Pope Gregory devised a new calendar in the sixteenth century the date changed and many folks celebrated Christmas 13 days later than their Gregorian counterparts did.
However, I grew up with Jesus being God being born on December 25 and there was no question that there was any variation of that. Therefore, my mention of where I was at Christmas is where I was on the darkest day of the year – well not really – that is only the darkest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In the dominating mindset of folks from the Northern Hemisphere, astrology consequently coincides collisionally with the Northern seasons. Or more so it seems like astrology as well as all the other life-explaining methods produces more of a collision-induced dissociation to reality than cohesive associations.
Many of my Christmases where spent in the Southern Hemisphere (37% of my life thus far) meaning it is where I was at the time of the year when the days were about the longest they could be – when the light was of great abundance but my life felt dark. This is the problem of using any worldview – it only makes sense if one’s personal context is the same as the worldview. The Southern Hemisphere needs to break away from the Northern metaphors and create their own metaphors. An earthly divorce. What sense does it make to an Australian to see Santa Claus driving through the snow and delivering presents? What sense does it make for women not to be ordained in the Catholic Church, for gay people not to be able to be priests or ministers? Especially lately when it is coming out more and more in the media and in the courts that too many priests and church leaders are in fact pedophiles that prey (pray) on males. What sense is there in religious leaders creating myths about our relationships with creation and at the same time attempting to make us believe that they are in direct communion with the God(s) of their myths when all along we do not feel what someone else believes we are feeling? Is it because, in fact, religion is a tool of power and control over the weak masses that are afraid to think for themselves?
Life, like love and beliefs are nothing more than contributions to the falsehoods that we give to others as we give unto ourselves. At the end of the day our beliefs are what get us to the end of the day in the mindset that we arrive at the end of the day with. Of course, what we began the day with or start the next day with could/should/would be different, sometimes remarkably different than our previous beliefs. Then we are evolving. Growing. Learning. Then at the end becoming fertilizer for the future.
Our worldview is nothing more than a result of billions of minds that went before us and the future’s mindset will be a result of what we think now added to what others have thought. To be free of the mass-mind of differentiated ideologies is the ultimate freedom. Beliefs are clusters quite similar to the universe – actually, I am sure that beliefs base themselves on the universe structure model.
For example, our main religions would be equal to galaxies – then there are offshoots that would be like stars in the galaxies and break offs from the stars, which would be like our planets.
In Hinduism, according to Goswami, science and various religions come together, as sanatana dharma. (Goswami, Amit. (2000). The Visionary Window: A Quantum Physicist’s Guide to Enlightenment”. (p. 22). Wheaton, Illinois, The Theosophical Publishing House.)
In Terrellism, according to Neuage, it was all together at the Big Bang and once duality set in, a trillionth of a second later, it all turned to shit and it will stay as shit until the Big Crunch. Recently it has been in the news that ‘A group of researchers argue that the theory of the origin of the Universe could be wrong. More specifically, they say that the Universe does not have a beginning.’
Maybe it really is a lunatic God inhaling and exhaling every twenty-billion or so earth-years that gives these endless and monotonous Bangs and Crunches and we are just what gets taken in then farted out. Consciousness is nothing more than the wandering thoughts of a gay-god who can only propagate herself. Of course, we try to wall off sections of that consciousness and call it our thoughts but our little feeble attempts at free-will and self-realization are just goofy. I think the way to really piss off god would be to stop thinking, stop being conscious.
If we no longer had thoughts, then god would just whither up and go Crunch. God can only be self-reflective if we poor-ass humans provide the reflection. Without us god does not exist. Then again without god we may not exist so there is a bit of a stalemate here. Now I can see why I use to take so many drugs – I thought god took himself too seriously so I came along and had all these spacey thoughts and visions to help god loosen up. Of course, looking at the mess the world is in today we can see god does not have a sense of humour.
Currently my worldviews put me into the wandering asteroid stage of evolution. I am but a frozen chunk that was passing through several galaxies only to get sucked into the Christian galactic orbit; then I became stuck into orbiting a Methodist star in a screwed up little solar system where it appears that my fate is nothing more than to crash into the earth and fragment as a meteorite breaking up in the earth’s atmosphere. I am but minute space dust after billions of years of evolution landing somewhere in the Australian Outback,
