Neuage: To incorporate technology into the
instructional process so as to encourage problem solving, exploration, and
learning; promote student-centered learning; provide access to appropriate
technology tools for all students and staff, increase student achievement;
support a comprehensive information system; encourage communication; develop
lifelong learners; increase faculty and staff productivity; and provide
opportunities for faculty and staff to model appropriate technology tool usage.
Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for
Boys is committed to providing students and staff with the skills necessary for
life in a technology-based society. We believe it is our job as educators to
prepare students for their roles in the workplace and the home environment that
is technologically orientated. The Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy
for Boys is helps students in acquiring the skills needed to manage massive
amounts of information and develop problem solving techniques. The District
encourages the use of technology to support student learning and enhance
communication. The Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for Boys is is dedicated to helping students grow in a rapidly
changing, technical society.
Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for
Boys is: Technology will be integrated throughout the curriculum and within the
administrative departments of the school. The school will be networked (both
video and computer) utilizing integrated communications software. The Albany
Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for Boys’ media center will be networked
and fully automated. The card catalog will be searchable from each computer on
the network. With at least one networked computer, VCR and TV in every
classroom, students and staff will have easy access to technology and the
resources it provides. Student performance will improve as technology is used
to encourage problem solving, increase exploration and promote student-centered
learning. Staff members will be technologically proficient; a list of proficiencies
will be developed by the technology committee, adopted by The Board of
Education, and evaluated by the building administrators each year. (Appendix A)
By developing these proficiencies, staff will become more productive and the
learning environment will be restructured as teachers and administrators model
appropriate technology usage. The school will continue to seek ways of
providing technological support to the members of the community. Adult training
classes, open labs, and the school’s Internet connection with modem access are
a few of the continuing efforts of serving the patrons and businesses of the
district. The connection provided by the PhoneMaster
2005 system will serve as a media for a strengthened connection between parent,
teacher, and student.
The technology mission of the Albany Academy for
Girls and Albany Academy for Boys is to incorporate technology into the
educational environment in such a way that it will encourage problem solving,
exploration, and learning in the classroom; promote student-centered learning;
provide access to appropriate technology for all students and staff;
restructure the learning environment; increase student achievement; support a
comprehensive information system; encourage communication; develop lifelong
learners; and improve faculty and staff productivity.
Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for
Boys is: Teach Students Valuable Skills; Philosophy Statement: Albany Academy
for Girls and Albany Academy for Boys believes that the use of technology
should be integrated into the curriculum to enhance and expedite learning.
Technology should not drive the curriculum but should be used as an appropriate
tool in the learning process.
Technology at Albany Academy for Girls and
Albany Academy for Boys should be utilized to enable students to achieve
essential skills and competencies to be effective citizens in a global society,
qualified members of the work force, and lifelong learners.
The technology mission of the Albany Academy for
Girls and Albany Academy for Boys is is to provide a
quality educational program that will prepare students to become successful,
contributing members of a changing, information-based society through the
development of technological skills to access, analyze, create, and communicate
information effectively. Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for Boys
is schools will accomplish this by providing staff training and cutting-edge
resources to support programs of global communication, community partnerships
and technology solutions that address the diverse learning styles of students.
The technology mission of the staff, students,
and community Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for Boys is is to provide leadership and guidance for faculty,
administration, and other school personnel in the areas of hardware, software,
application, and usage to support and enhance the instructional program for
students across all curricular areas.
Within the Albany Academy for Girls and Albany
Academy for Boys, we believe that classrooms, by design, should be true
"multimedia" environments -- not just the multimedia which generally
implies some type of equipment -- where students and teachers use textbooks,
workbooks, manipulatives, electronicboards,
crayons, blue, overhead projectors, televisions, musical instruments, etc., as
well as computers. The guiding principle should be to use the media that best
supports the learning goal -- teachers should first talk about learning and
then talk about educational technology. With that in mind, the philosophies
regarding the use of educational technology at Albany Academy for Girls and
Albany Academy for Boys is include:
The mission of Albany Academy for Girls and
Albany Academy for Boys is, as the primary educational resource of the
community, is to educate all students academically, socially, physically, and
emotionally within a secure and nurturing environment. Students will acquire an
academic foundation that will assure to each the skills and the knowledge
necessary to be productive members of our changing society.
It shall be the mission of Albany Academy for
Girls and Albany Academy for Boys, with collaborative efforts from the district
Technology Advisory Committee, to develop a plan for the implementation of
technology in the district. The committee will receive training/in service in
how technology can meet the changing needs of students and educators and help
the district respond to societal expectations. The committee will develop and
revise a long-range plan for technology in the district to enhance student
learning and support the district's established curriculum and conform to the
Arcadia Valley R-II Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, New York Show-Me
Technology Plan and the New York State Standards. It is the mission of Albany
Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for Boys is to provide the means for
students to develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities and to
prepare our students for mastery of the New York State Show-Me Standards. It is
also the mission of the district to provide training for all teachers,
administrators, and staff; provide the necessary resources to sustain enhanced
student learning; and to provide technical support to maintain technology
within the District.
The technology mission of Albany Academy for
Girls and Albany Academy for Boys is is to
incorporate technology into the educational environment in such a way that it
will encourage problem solving, exploration, and learning in the classroom;
promote student-centered learning; provide access to appropriate technology for
all students and staff; restructuring the learning environment; increase student
achievement; support a comprehensive information system; encourage
communication; develop lifelong learners, improve faculty and staff
productivity, and provide the opportunity for faculty and staff to model
appropriate technology usage.
The Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy
for Boys vision is to develop life-long learners who value diversity, and are
confident in using technology in a variety of ways. More specifically, the
district staff believes that:
Technology provides a tool to facilitate
educational restructuring, which is so necessary to prepare youth for the 21st
century. Business as usual will not be sufficient to meet the educational needs
of a leading nation in a global society. Technological developments have
precipitated the very changes that now demand the use of technology in our
nation's schools. To maintain world-class status as a nation, the
The most significant change that has taken place
in recent years is the knowledge explosion. There is no longer a hope to keep
up with our growing knowledge base. The distribution of information is global,
and no longer constrained by national boundaries. The only viable option is to
learn to manage information rather than merely absorb it, which requires
higher-order thinking, multiple perspectives, and communication skills.
Technology improves our ability to manage and communicate information to a global
audience. Viable businesses are making use of technology to operate in an
information-base, global environment. Schools need to employ that technology to
mirror what already is present in the workplace.
