Congratulations to:

Division 4 and Under 16(2), the coaches and players on their premiership success;
Our Club for again being awarded both the Senior and Junior SABL Shields for best Club in those categories;
David King, Tyler Green, Josh Wigmore and Leigh Neuage, for their selection in junior state teams;
Ryan Seeley and Terry Millwood for their selection in the SA Bite team
Ben Brusnahan for winning the SABL Division 2 Best & Fairest Medal
Glenn Harris who, in recognition of the work he does around the facility, was awarded one of the Mayor’s inaugural local government citizen medal.

I’d like to thank all those people who provided help and assistance when asked. In organisations such as ours it is essential that a significant volunteer base exists and in this respect I believe that we are very fortunate. I cannot mention names as I would be sure to overlook somebody, but those of you who have responded to the call know who you are. Remember that there is always room for more volunteers.

In the past year I have found that your committee has functioned to a significant extent as one body with few occasions of dissent. I wish to thank all members of the committee for their work and support.

Improvements continue to be made within the facility and the grounds, an obvious one being the changes made to the Under 14 diamond courtesy of a State Government grant. A grant also enabled Peregrine Park to install PVC blinds around the verandah and the benefit of this has already been demonstrated particularly at the senior presentation night. I should point out here that grants are generally awarded on a dollar for dollar basis and therefore improvements such as these can only occur when our club and Peregrine Park are supported in their endeavors.

After three years Gary Rice advised the committee that he would no longer be available to coach the Div 1 team for personal reasons. On behalf of the players and supporters I wish to thank Gary and his family for their efforts and support over that period and wish them the best for the future. Hopefully that future will involve our club.

The committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Darren Bosley as the Div 1 coach in place of Gary Rice. Darren is the first Div 1 coach to have graduated from TeeBall to this role and the committee expects that he will receive unilateral support from players and supporters.

Thank you to all of those people who accepted roles as coaches, managers, scorers, etc in the various teams. Without these people we could not proceed.
 There has been considerable discussion of late concerning the summer baseball format, particularly as it relates to Div 1. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to provide any details of how the 2000/2001 competition will be conducted as the matter is not yet resolved. Rest assured that the committee will do what it can to protect the interests of this club.

Some of you will be aware that the number of new juniors joining our club has been reducing over recent years. In an effort to address and hopefully reverse this trend discussions are being held with Tee Ball and PeeWee to try to identify ways in which we can support those bodies in recruiting more participants. As a part of this process we are planning to join with those bodies at the Willunga Almond Festival to promote our sport. I hope that if volunteers are necessary for this task many of you will be able to help.

Finally, reference to the financial statements will make it clear that player and membership subscriptions are not sufficient in themselves to fund baseball. Without the funds generated from sponsorship, fundraising and social events, we would have to raise subscriptions significantly. Thankfully, as a result of the efforts of a small group of people, funding continues to flow from these sources, but this can only happen with the support of all members and I respectfully ask that you continue your support in these areas.
