Fill in the blank lines below for this groovy award you have won. The material to answer these questions is on pages 2-6 thus you will need to read the story to answer the questions below – however, read the questions first so you know what you are looking for in the writing of your speech. Write your answers on another paper to have room.

In your acceptance speech you describe what makes the story you wrote (Wombat – pages 2-6) such a prize winning story. Consider the following:

Strategic role

(How does the Story_of_the_year foundation directly foster and support

writers?) – you will need to adlib a bit here

Idea for writing this story (where did it come from? – How long did it take to write? Why do you think it became the most loved and best selling story of all time?)

Three other nominees came close to winning – thank them and praise their writing and what were their books/stories and what do admire about their work?

What will you say about your self and the children’s story genre?

You will read an excerpt from the story – write just the first few words of the paragraph and ending with the last words you will read – what section are you reading to the adoring pubic who are in awe of your writing ability?

________________________________________________________________________

The award winner prior to you (best documentary) was just booed for talking about the war in Iraq more than his award winning movie – when you come up to stage the people are still booing – what will you do to change the tone so people realise you are only speaking about the award for best children’s story of the year?

After receiving the award and speaking for several minutes you announce you will never write another story or book. Explain to the shocked audience why this is.
